THE MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PLUMBING

At Service Plus Plumbing and Heating, we've encountered just about every plumbing problem you could imagine. Having served the Kamloops area for 20 years, we've also been asked many different questions about plumbing and have noticed a few questions that seem to come up quite often. Here are four of the most common questions that we've been asked over the years.

My Drain Is Slow, but No Cleaning Products Seem to Be Able to Clear It. Is There an Alternative? The chemicals used in drain cleaners are highly corrosive and can damage your plumbing if used too often (which is why many districts recommend only using them in moderation). Luckily, there's a more pipe-friendly option: start by pouring hot water down the drain, then run a cup of baking soda, followed by a cup of vinegar/water solution, and finish with one more hot water flush. If that doesn't work, you may need to get your hands dirty with a snake or plunger. Failing that, it may be time to call in a professional drain cleaning service. My Water Pressure Just Dropped! Is There Something Wrong? Short answer: yes. A sudden water pressure drop almost always means that something has gone wrong. You can start by checking your water meter, which will help determine if there are any leaking pipes. Whether you can determine if there's a leak or not, there aren't too many DIY solutions to low water pressure. Consulting a professional plumber is often the best option. Can I Do This on My Own? If the problem is something minor that you can solve using what you have on hand and doesn't require too much plumbing expertise, DIY jobs can be a great way to save money. Doing anything major, such as installing fixtures or attempting to diagnose a sudden water interruption, can be somewhat risky for anyone with no plumbing experience. In addition to potentially damaging non-broken components and making your situation worse, faulty installation of a fixture or a botched leak repair could very well leave your home or business flooded! If you're concerned about late-night or off-hour emergencies, such as a sudden leak, you don't actually need to handle the crisis on your own. Your friendly neighbourhood plumber operates a plumbing emergency service that can come out at any time of day. I Need a Plumber! How Much Will This Cost? Given the various factors that go into any plumbing work, from diagnosing the issue to obtaining the components needed, it's hard to say with any certainty what the cost will be for any given job. Service Plus Plumbing and Heating offer free estimates for larger plumbing jobs, giving you a much more accurate price. Any More Questions About Plumbing?
